Welcome to Blog Tikkun!

I can't express how excited we all are to be sharing this first blog post.

If this is your first time here, try reading about who we are as people because, well, we're people, and you'll be reading what we write as people if you start to come here often.

And we assume you have already read about Tikkun Long Island, of course, but if for some reason you are here and haven't done that yet, you can do so here.

Also, I won't say this often here, but please do consider donating if you have the money.  We do our best to spend wisely what little money we have, and we do get a lot of volunteer/pro bono support, but no matter how hard we try to avoid having to raise money, at the end of the day there are bills to pay if we want to prevent crime and heal communities.  So please help us do that with a donation, if you can -- even a small one -- and in return we promise to spend your money as wisely as possible.

If you have any comments, questions, suggestions, or anything else you think is worth contacting us about, we would love your feedback (seriously).  Click here for all sorts of different ways to reach us; don't be shy!

In future, we won't be blogging much here about things like our About, Donate, and Contact pages.  No, that stuff is for First Blog Posts only.

Instead, we'll be using Blog Tikkun as a place to tell our stories, share and discuss relevant news, and provide the occasional opinion about this-that-or-the-other-thing (nothing too polemical though, we promise).

At the moment we don't have any comments policy, because we have the utmost faith that our readership knows how to comment effectively on a blog.  If for whatever reason we're wrong about that, I suppose we'll have to set up a comments policy and start moderating, so please, be nice in the comments section -- keep it classy, Tikkun Nation.

A final note:  Tikkun Long Island is not a religious organization, so this space isn't really meant to be used as a forum for religious discussion.  If your faith motivates you to do something nice for others, feel free to share that in the comments, but by the same token don't be afraid to comment or become productively involved with Tikkun just because you're not Jewish, and try not to make helping others about Judaism per se.  We're just a couple of guys with (mostly) Jewish-sounding names, who thought the concept of Tikkun Olam ("healing the world") captured our mission statement succinctly, and anyway not all of us are even Jewish.  Anyway, you can read more about the concept of Tikkun Olam here if you're interested.

Again, we can't possibly express how excited we all are to begin blogging here, so be sure to check back soon for updates.  We promise to do our best to make them worthwhile.

All the best,
Team Tikkun
